Excerpt:

Less than five minutes later, she let him have it. Standing on her aching legs and wobbling back and forth—maybe the second glass of wine hadn’t been the best idea—she railed at the poor man.

“You want me to gain weight? As in, not being able to fit into my Batman jammie pants anymore, kind of weight? How much poundage are we talking? Muscle or fat? How much of each? How fast and how long? Why? I am okay with my body and all the natural shifting it’s doing, but to suggest purposefully adding to the mix…” she sputtered and sat back down with a heavy oomph.

“Shay, I’m talking about a little extra weight for the race. I’ve done the research, and the best finishers have all had more to burn on those difficult days,” he reasoned.

“And a little extra layer of fat might keep me warm during the night portion,” she said, frowning. “It makes sense. But it goes against everything I have done growing up.”

“I know. Sorry. You don’t have to do any of this if you don’t want to. It’s your body and your race. Mind if we talk it out? What are the biggest cons and pros? Why do this? What’s your ultimate goal?”

“All right, but I’m going to need another glass of wine and a back massage.” She was kidding about the last part, but he took it in stride.

After refilling her glass of wine, and setting it on the coffee table, he motioned for her to flip over onto her tummy.

“I was only playing. You don’t have to—”

“Shay, I don’t do things unless I want to.” He looked sweet and commanding at the same time. “The hottest woman I ever met asked me to rub my hands and knuckles across her gorgeous bare skin. The woman I’m training asked me, her trainer, to help her alleviate some soreness. Either one, I’m in and happy to oblige. Would you like me to massage your back?”

“Yes, thank you. But don’t think about trying to get me to make any decisions while I’m turning into a big puddle of goo. That’s entrapment.”

He laughed. “Okay, no entrapment. Just the brilliant Mr. Peabody doing what he does best.”

She held the blanket in front of her chest as she pulled off her T-shirt and lay down on her stomach. “Massages?”

His breath sounded like it hitched for a moment before he answered her with firm, heated palms along each side of her spine. “Brainstorming.”

Blurb:

Interview with Cara Bristol – Cyborgs!

I am so excited to have Cara Bristol visiting me today. Not only is she a USA Today bestselling author, she is also one of my favorites from several genres.  Her latest science fiction just released, and man is it awesome!  I love her cyborgs, and couldn’t wait to get some more info about them, and the worlds she has created. Here’s Cara Bristol. 🙂

******

Cy-Ops series

Thank you, Katherine for your questions about cyborgs. I think you asked some things that people were dying to know, but were afraid to ask.

What is a cyborg?

A cyborg is a human being who has been scientifically enhanced with mechanical and/or computerized parts. Think of the Six Million Dollar Man. In science fiction romance a cyborg generally has a computer chip in his human brain that gives him extra abilities. Some authors play up the machine part of their cyborgs; others, like myself, emphasize their humanness. Besides the extra brain power, they are exceptionally well built.

What is the difference between an android and a cyborg?

I’m glad you asked! First, let’s define what a robot is: is a machine that can react to its environment. For example, the Roomba vacuum cleaner robot “knows” to go around an obstacle. An ordinary vacuum can’t do that. An android is a robot that looks human. It is not living, not organic. It’s 100 percent machine. A cyborg is a human being with some computerized parts. But since androids look human, you may not be able to tell the difference. In fact, in book 2 of the Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance series, Mated with the Cyborg, hero Kai Andros goes undercover pretending to be an android.

If you could “build” your own cyborg, what famous personality would he look most like?

I think Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would make a perfect cyborg. I will say that male models on the covers of my cyborg books resemble my characters as I envisioned them.

Can cyborg males produce offspring?

Yes, because cyborgs are human beings.

How do they keep from impregnating females? Is it a switch they turn on and off?

Nanocytes, tiny robotic cells help build up muscle and speed healing in cyborgs. They can also be used to switch off sperm production, which I actually mention in Mated with the Cyborg (Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance 2)

If so, can they also “enlargen” at will? 😉

Lol, good question. But, the answer is no. The attraction to the heroine takes care of that. J However…often the hero doesn’t want to be attracted to the heroine because it complicates his life, so he employs his nanocytes to cool things down. Usually that doesn’t work—because the attraction is so strong.

In the last two books, both cyborgs “surprised” their female counterparts with what they were. How would you react if you found out the person closest to you was a cyborg?

Lol, since I write fiction, I’d be very surprised science had advanced that far, and I didn’t know about it. I think it would be cool though, and a great thing for humankind. It could solve a lot of problems for wounded servicemen and women. One reason my heroines were surprised that their hero was a cyborg is because in the Cy-Ops series the cyborgs work for a clandestine paramilitary organization. They’re undercover spies. They operate outside the law, and what they do is top secret. That’s why they don’t tell heroine who they are and what they do. In Captured by the Cyborg, heroine Illumina figures it out on her own early on. She’s a sharp cookie!

Have you ever thought of doing a female cyborg for one of your stories?

Maybe I already have…*whistles*. No spoilers. I am considering a male/female cyborg team for a future book.

If you could visit any place you have described in one of your stories, where would you go?

Two places. First, the Darius 4 Pleasure resort described in the Cy-Ops series. I think that would be so cool. Second, I would love to visit the Rod and Cane Society mansion.

Captured by the Cyborg (Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance 3) Description

Sometimes the biggest risk is to one’s heart….

An ex-Cyber Operations field agent, Dale Homme has kissed danger and betrayal more times than he cares to count. Now he runs a clandestine factory beneath the surface of the moon Deceptio, where confidentiality and security matter more than anything. When a beautiful young woman arrives seeking a job, Dale knows within minutes she’s lying. Everything about her is false: her past, the people she claims to know, her reason for being on Deceptio. Illumina Smith? Even her name is an alias.

Logic says send her packing. His gut says she’s in trouble. She needs him. So he’ll do anything to keep her safe….even if it means keeping her captive.

Captured by the Cyborg is third in the Cy-Ops Sci-fi Romance series but is written to be read as a stand-alone novella.

An Excerpt from Captured by the Cyborg

Dale slapped his knees. “Here’s what’s going to happen. First, to put your mind at rest, let me assure you that Alonio is no threat to me. I’m a cyborg. Keeping people safe is what I do. He might succeed in drawing a little blood, but I’ll wipe up the mess with his ass. Second, while I doubt he can gain access to Deceptio, as a precaution, I’ll amp up security.”

“About that…” She had to tell him how she’d changed the entry protocol. He wouldn’t like that she’d gone behind his back. “I need to tell you…”

He held up his hand. “Let me finish. Third, you are not going anywhere. You’re staying right here where I can protect you.”

The autocratic edict set her teeth on edge. “You can’t keep me here!” She hadn’t fought so hard for her freedom and safety only to be dictated to by another man, however well intentioned. She was nobody’s captive!

“Yes, I can.”

Let him try! “As you’ve realized,” she said, “I’m a master sensate. A computer system doesn’t exist that I can’t infiltrate. I can hijack one of your spaceships and be gone before you realize there was a breach. Your entry and exit protocols, for instance—”

He leaned in until his breath caressed her ear, and he whispered, “Did your orientation tour happen to include a visit to the brig?”

He was threatening to lock her up? She jerked away and rounded on him. “What are you saying?”

“Moonbeam’s isolation can cause people to go a little crazy. We haven’t had anyone snap yet, but the possibility exists. You could be the first ward of the Deceptio jail.”

“I can access computer-controlled doors, too!” She crossed her arms.

He laughed. “You and half the employees on Deceptio—which is why they’re not computer controlled.” From his pocket he pulled out a metal ring and dangled some odd-shaped jagged objects. “Good old-fashioned locks and keys. The best antiques money can buy.”

She leaped off the bench. “You’d imprison me?”
